In accordance with state law, it is the policy of the Cedar Rapids Public Library Board of Trustees to prohibit smoking and the use of tobacco products in all library buildings. Tobacco products are defined as cigars, cigarettes, and pipes.

1. All public areas of the library, including the downtown library lobby, restrooms, elevators, and Beems auditorium, are designated as non-smoking areas.
2. Smoking is also prohibited in private offices, the garage area of the downtown library, staff lounge, staff work areas, and anywhere inside library branch facilities.
3. Smoking in library-owned vehicles is prohibited.
4. If members of the public smoke in library facilities, they will be asked to stop or leave the building. If they refuse, the security guard or supervisor of the day will be notified and appropriate action will be taken.
