Less than six months before the 2008 flood destroyed the 85,000 sq ft Cedar Rapids Public Library this video was extolling the merits of the library and libraries in general.

Recover, Rebuild, Reinvest

Within five days after the flood, the library was in operation from a small 2500 sq ft branch library. Two months later the library had tripled in size at a local Mall to over 7,500 sq ft.

One more expansion occurred at about 8 months post flood. After several months of remodeling by library staff, the new "Bridge" Library opened. Still at Westdale Mall, it is now over 15,000 sq feet ...and still growing.
