The result of a letter-writing campaign by children's librarian Evelyn Zerzanek in the late 1950s and early 1960s, this one-of-a-kind collection comprises over 800 illustrations by children's book illustrators in a wide range of artistic styles, including watercolor, pen-and-ink, pencil sketches, silk screens, and color separations. Richard Scarry, Charles Schulz, Hank Ketchum, Louis Darling, and an array of others are represented, including eight Caldecott Medal winners.
