April 3, 2025 – National Library Week is April 6-12, 2025, and the Cedar Rapids Public Library invites community members to join this celebration of the many ways libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection.

The Cedar Rapids Public Library provides free Wi-Fi and computer access, digital collections, career assistance at the Opportunity Center, technology access through the Maker Spaces, engaging programs for all ages, and more, ensuring that everyone has access to resources that educate, inspire, and connect.

The library invites the public to celebrate with us by:

  • Sharing your story: The impact of a public library can best be measured by the impact on our community. Visit CRLibrary.org/advocacy or use #CRPL #NationalLibraryWeek on social media to share a story about how the library has impacted you.

  • Staying informed: Monday, April 7 is Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. The American Library Association will release its State of America's Libraries Report, including the list of Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2024.

  • Thanking a library worker: Tuesday, April 8 is National Library Workers Day. Library staff work hard to serve our community. Contribute to community thank you displays that will be set up at the Downtown and Ladd libraries all week.

  • Being a library advocate: Thursday, April 10 is Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries. Visit CRLibrary.org/advocacy to learn how you can get involved.

  • Supporting the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation. The Foundation has partnered with Lion Bridge Brewing Company to release Library Lager to raise awareness about the Westside Library project. The beer will be released during National Library Week and will also be available to try at Literary Vines, the Foundation’s fundraising gala on April 18.

  • Stopping by the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library Book Sale: National Library Week concludes with the Friends’ Big Spring Book Sale Friday to Sunday, April 11-13, at the Downtown Library. Proceeds support literacy efforts in our community.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
