We have big things planned for you at the library this summer.
There will be life-sized dinosaurs. There will be live animal encounters – think cute animals like fennec foxes and creepy crawly ones like tarantulas. There will be magicians and circus performers and storytellers. We will welcome back beloved children’s musician Tom Pease and even host a mermaid in Greene Square.
We’ll also have our Mobile Technology Lab out and about throughout the city, bringing activities, games, books, and fun to seven area parks alongside the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department’s Rollin' Recmobile.
These activities will be accompanied by the Summer Dare, our reading program for all ages. We’re doing the Dare as a Bingo-style game this year – register at the library or at CRLibrary.org/summer-dare, complete five activity squares in a row on our game board and come into the library to pick up a free book. If you can complete the whole game board and black out all the squares, we’ll have a special achievement lapel pin for you.
Why are we doing all this? Because we believe that when kids get excited about cute animals or magic tricks or music at the library, the library will be a place they associate with joy and the thrill of discovery. Because we want the library to be a place kids and adults alike are enthusiastic about visiting. And because we want everyone to also be excited about the books, resources, and access to information and ideas they can find here.
No matter your age, we hope you’ll join us on this summer’s adventures. In fact, we dare you to.
